Upcoming symposium: libraries supporting media and information literacy for young people

In today’s complex information landscape, media and information literacy skills and dispositions are essential for young people. This symposium will explore why libraries have an important role to play and how a guiding framework of attitude, awareness, ability, and access can be put into action.

The symposium will have 3 sessions, across 3 days, with each focused on a different stage of schooling: early childhood, Year K-6, and Year 7-12/13. Choose a session that best meets your needs, or attend all three to get insights from examples across all year levels.

Each session will cover the following:
  • Definitions of media and information literacy, and why it is important.
  • The role of libraries in developing media and information literacy skills and dispositions.
  • An overview of the 4As (attitude, awareness, ability, and access) Framework and examples from across NSLA libraries.
  • Q&A session, including questions from the audience.
