Congratulations to Geoff Strempel, Director of the State Library of South Australia and National and State Libraries Australasia (NSLA) Board Member, for being awarded the HCL Anderson Award at the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) National 2024 Conference.
The HCL Anderson Award is the highest honour awarded by ALIA to an Associate Member, recognising outstanding service to the library and information profession in Australia.
After a long career in libraries, over six years currently serving as the Director of the State Library of South Australia, and previously a decade managing Public Library Services, Geoff has made a significant impact on both national and local library services. He has participated in numerous national advisory boards and committees, including the NSLA Board, playing a pivotal role in supporting NSLA’s work.
At its recent Board meeting in March, Chair Sue McKerracher raised a toast to Geoff’s contributions to NSLA and to the library sector, citing the generosity he has shown to his NSLA peers over many years, and his contributions and thoughtful leadership that have greatly benefited the library community. She praised his wise counsel and collaborative approach, both hallmarks of his leadership. Geoff will continue as a NSLA Board member until his retirement from the State Library of South Australia, in October.
We would like to share our congratulations for this well-deserved recognition.
