The National edeposit service (NED), launched in 2019, has entered its next phase following the signing of a new Deed of Agreement by member library leaders ten days ago.
The Deed will see the collaboration between Australia’s national, state and territory libraries through to 2027. It marks a transition from the ‘build’ and ‘enhancement’ phases of NED to a mature service phase, supported by a strategic plan and a strong governance model. A number of new positions have been created as part of this governance model.
The NED Program Manager will manage the collaborative and strategic components of NED, reporting to the NSLA Office and working closely with the National Library of Australia’s own Implementation Manager. These roles will be supported by the Chair and Deputy Chair of the NED Steering Group: both two-year positions on rotation between members of the group.
Jo Ritale (formerly State Library Victoria) was appointed to the role of NED Program Manager in November 2022, with Lesley Sharp (State Library of South Australia) voted as Chair and Anna Raunik (State Library of Queensland) as Deputy Chair of the NED Steering Group.
Our thanks to all Steering Group members and to the many National Library colleagues in both the Digital and Collaboration branches who saw through the considerable consultation and drafting work involved in producing a final deed, governance model and service level agreement for NED. Particular thanks to Fiona Clarke and Aileen Weir for their project management and leadership.
NED members are well supported now to develop a strategic and operational plan, based on three years of evidence, that will ensure the most representative and sustainable possible collection of Australian electronic legal deposit publications.
